Opening times: 6-9 pm
We are proud to invite you to the opening of the group exhibition "MY HOME MY CASTLE" which will take place next friday, 2 December in a private appartment in the Oppelner Strasse (Berlin). Seven artists are invited to intervene three rooms of a house while asked to reflect about the idea of "house". Through in situ pieces or works in progress, the proposals show the rich chain of associations that the concept raised in their minds.
The house is the common place transfigurated where we play hide-and-seek with our ideas about art. Turned into object and issue at the same time, home is the central idea that articulates the positions of the seven young artists invited to intervene a house in Kreuzberg during a weekend.
From art to furniture there is an ambiguous pathway that we love. The house seem to be the right place to play with this precious and unstable device that we call art. Theatre of plans, failures, wars and surrenders, cartography of steps and desires, home is, however, the doubtless matrix to start from and to go back to, the unquestionable reference, not coincidentally is "house" the place where you are save in child games too. Experimenting the own house is as individual as living the own life, then it grows with its inhabitants like an organic entity, and our conversations with space build our daily relation to it.
Houses talk, for us, with us, without us, they extend our presence in the physical world but they set the border with the rest of the world too. How to integrate the arbitrary language of art in the widely known and lived environment of a house with its own stories and traces is the starting point of "My home my castle", a journey into the internal representations of home of the invited artists.
The intervention takes place in three rooms of the house, which then loose its common use for a couple of hours to turn into scenery to pass through and object to look at. In this experiment of estrangement are the artists who have the last say.
